About the Park
Fischer Park is the largest park in the New Braunfels Parks system and is 100% ADA compliant. Located off of County Line road and Old McQueeny road, the park is home to a Blackland Prairie restoration site. The park is named after the Fischer family who used the land as their homestead from 1946 to 2007 when they sold 55 acres to the city while donating three additional acres. Much of the existing park is a result of work the Fischer family did before selling the land. Both fishing ponds were built and stocked by the family for decades. The family also preached environmental awareness to local residents. The park features over two miles of trails to hike or bike on and connects to the County Line Memorial Trail. Residents and visitors can enjoy the free playground, sprayground and fishing. Throughout the year, concerts and free movie showings are put on at the park for families to enjoy. The park features an education center that is used for school field trips, birthday parties, summer youth camps, and free educational activities on weekends. Kayak or fish at the two fishing ponds, splash at the sprayground, enjoy the playgrounds or take in the dramatic views of New Braunfels from the 62 acre hill top park.

Internship Information
For information on an Internship at Fischer Park please contact Robin Kunkel at (830) 221-4363. For my internship I served as a Recreation Instructor. Job responsibilities included performing daily maintenance, designing and operating school field trips as well as week-long summer camps for different age groups. Throughout the internship I also gained perspective on park managerial operations as well as insight into how a city Parks and Recreation Department operates. The Department looks for college students majoring in the Parks and Recreation field when seeking interns. The internship was unpaid, however the job provided satisfaction through community impact and appreciation. The job provides an opportunity to work with local residents and positively impact youth. Some skills gained throughout the internship include communication skills, leadership skills, working as a team, event planning experience, and others. Some achievements include creating successful programs or camps that can be used for future events. Fischer Park is not just an ordinary park where visitors recreate, but a place to educate the public about our natural resources.
